Tank pressure cooker stove

The stove and tin were issued to crews of armoured vehicles during the Second World War.

They were used by the Northamptonshire Yeomanry tank crews to prepare meals and drinks for six to eight men who were on active service. The shallow metal box formed a stand with a single burner and internal fuel tank. The metal mess tin is designed to be used over this portable cooking apparatus

Metal and rubber

The Northamptonshire Yeomanry were formed as two light tank regiments in 1939. Both the 1st and 2nd Regiments landed in Normandy shortly after D-Day June 1944 and fought as part of Operation Charnwood, Operation Totalize and Operation Varsity. The 2nd Northamptonshire Yeomanry was disbanded later in 1944. After the breakout from France the 1st Northamptonshire Yeomanry continued as part of the Allied push East to serve in Belgium and Holland.
