Identity Cards by Chris Fiddes

Here figures tell the world who they are through the clothing, possessions and the playing cards they display whilst hiding their faces.

This commentary on how society operates today links to consumerism and people’s consumption and exhibition of status symbols as a way to show their status and identity. Fiddes uses paintings like this to capture his own perspective on different scenarios. Here he questions whether we gravitate towards those who possess similar ‘identity cards’ to us.
