Hardihood, Endurance and Courage: Explorations through art by Clare Abbatt

An exhibition in Art Gallery 2

Saturday 4 March - Sunday 4 May

During 2012 artist Clare Abbatt created a series of 12 large scale drawings of the explorers of the Terra Nova Expedition of 1910-1913 based on Herbert Ponting’s photographs.
The Terra Nova Expedition has become famous due to the tragic deaths of Captain Robert Falcon Scott and 4 other men who attempted to be the first expedition to reach the South Pole. The attempt to reach the Pole was only a small part of the expedition which had geological, magnetic and meteorological goals including the exploration of King Edward VII Land and Victoria Land.
The artist has very generously donated these large scale drawings along with four busts of explorers to Northampton Museum and Art Gallery and they will be on display, along with other pieces by the artist, from 4 March to 14 May.
