Volunteer Tour Guides

Main purpose of role:

Deliver public tours at Northampton Museum & Art Gallery and Abington Park Museum.

Main duties:

Create interesting and engaging tours for the public at both museum sites.

Deliver highlight and gallery specific tours for both museums.

Deliver a range of tours for different groups of visitors.

Location:

Northampton Museum and Art Gallery & Abington Park Museum

Approximate time commitment and duration:

To be able to deliver a miminum of one tour per month - days and time will vary.

Private booked tours as and when required.

Useful skills required:

  • A keen interest in the history and heritage of Northampton
  • An interest in the collections of Northampton Museums & Art Gallery
  • A good level of literacy
  • A good level of spoken English
  • Good presentation and public speaking skills
  • Able to research topics and learn new information
  • Able to relate to the different types of visitors on the tours

Training provided:

Full day training course - 21 February 2022 - applicants must be available for this date. 

Follow up sessions.

Full museum induction.

Skills volunteers can devleop in the role:

  • Presentation and public speaking
  • Research skills
  • Knowledge and experience of tour guiding

Other information:

  • All equipment will be provided
  • Free tea/coffee and biscuits
  • Free parking
