Dementia Café Volunteer
Main purpose of role:
To support museum staff in the delivery of Dementia cafés and activity sessions for people living with Dementia and their carers
This will be a new addition to our Wellness programme of events and activities
Main duties:
- To support people with Dementia and their carers who attend our café and activity sessions
- Explain and demonstrate activities
- Encourage creativity
- Support staff with pop up café, serving refreshments
- Supporting staff with delivering reminiscence and other activities
Location:
Northampton Museum and Art Gallery
Approximate time commitment and duration:
Cafés run on Friday afternoons from 2 – 3.30pm. Volunteers will be required to attend from approximately 1.30 – 4pm
Dates: Friday 24 February, Friday 24 February, Friday 21 April - further dates to booked in the future.
Useful skills required:
- Previous work with people living with dementia and/or carers is desirable but not essential
- Friendly, approachable manner
- At ease working with people in a customer facing role
- Creative, innovative, inspiring
- Good manual dexterity
- Clearly spoken to explain activities
Training provided:
You will be required to attend an induction session.
All training provided.
Skills volunteers can develop in the role:
- Team working
- Increased confidence in working with people
- Increased understanding of the needs of people living with Dementia
