Shoe Collection Volunteer

Main purpose of role:

An opportunity to help catalogue shoes and shoe related objects that have been  donated to the Shoe Collection. Join the Senior Shoe Curator in cataloguing, packing and organising the collection to meet Museum Accreditation standards. The role could also include object prep for exhibitions, research and any shoe related tasks. It is a chance to be part of a friendly team and learn practical and academic skills along the way.

Main duties:

  • Catalogue the shoes and shoe related items using the Collections Management System Database- MODES Complete
  • Photograph, condition report, pack and store the shoes
  • Possible research tasks to answer public enquiries
  • Preparing shoes for exhibition or loan

Location:

Northampton Museum and Art Gallery

Approximate time commitment and duration:

One day per week

Tuesday or Wednesday

10am - 4pm with lunch break

Useful skills required:

  • Computer literate and confident with spreadsheets
  • Confident using a camera
  • Attention to detail
  • Good written and recording skills
  • Interest in shoes

Training provided:

All training will be provided. You will be required to attend an induction session.
