In the early 1980s Nike was struggling in a saturated trainer market. Jordan was already endorsing other products and preferred to wear adidas or Converse – but he was persuaded by his parents and coach to accept Nike’s endorsement offer. Nike signed Jordan to a $2.5 million deal for five years. However colourful trainers were not allowed by the National Basketball Association so evertime Jordan wore his black and red pair he was fined $5,000. |
