Access to Northampton Museum & Art Gallery

We want to be open and accessible to all visitors to ensure the widest number of people can enjoy our buildings, collections, exhibitions and events. We hope that the following information will help you to plan and make the most of your visit to Northampton Museum & Art Gallery.

Entry to the museum is free for everyone. Donations are gratefully accepted.

Public transport

Northampton is served by bus services into the town centre. North Gate Bus Station is located at Bradshaw Street, NN1 3B2. Northampton Railway Station is located at Black Lion Hill, Northampton, Northamptonshire, NN1 1SP.

Parking

There is no onsite parking. There are a limited number of on street pay and display parking bays on Guildhall Road. Parking is payable for two hours, no return within one hour. The nearest car parks are located at Albion Place, St John's and Mayorhold.

Accessible parking

There is no onsite accessible parking. Accessible parking bays for blue badge holders are located on Guildhall Road. Blue badge holders can park free in the pay and display parking bays on Guildhall Road.

Museum entrance

The museum entrance is located on Guildhall Road. It has level access and automatic doors.

Lifts and access to galleries

View locations of the lifts on the museum plan or pick up a paper plan on arrival at reception.

We have lifts to all floors in the building. All lifts and galleries are accessible for buggys and wheelchair users.

Accessible toilets

View locations of accessible toilets, baby changing and baby feeding areas on the museum plan or pick up a free paper copy on arrival from reception.

Accessible toilets are available in two locations.

  • The upper ground floor, near the cafe, off The Link
  • The upper ground floor, near to the shop

There are clear signs provided and staff will always be happy to direct you.

We don't have a changing places toilet on site. The nearest Changing Places toilet is located at North Gate Bus Station, Bradshaw Street, Northampton, NN1 3B2.

Seating

Seating is provided in some galleries, The cafe and The Link.

Hearing enhancement systems

There are hearing enhancement systems provided at the reception, cafe servery, shop till and in The Studio.

Assistance animals

Assistance animals are welcome in the museum as long as they are working and are wearing their tabards or harness. Owners should bring the animal's Assistance Dogs (UK) identification book (or the appropriate international equivalent) with them. Dog bowls and water are available on request at the reception desk located on the upper ground floor. Assistance animals must be kept with you at all times. The nearest toilet/toileting area for guide, assistant and companion animals is located at Becket's Park, Derngate, Northampton, NN1 1UH.
