The side drum or snare drum is a percussion instrument used in military bands. It is known for its classic sharp staccato sound and is associated with the fife and drum music of the infantry foot soldiers of the British Army. The Northamptonshire Militia saw service from 1763 to 1860. In 1860 it was amalgamated into the Northampton and Rutland Militia, which would later become the Special Reserve Battalion of The Northamptonshire Regiment. |
