About
Serving the people of Northampton
A service provided by West Northamptonshire Council, we have been serving the people of Northamptonshire for more than 150 years.
Since 1865 we have celebrated Northampton locally, and internationally with our shoe collection. We are proud to be a vibrant space for all people and we continue to be free for all. We aim to inspire discussion, debate and social interaction – a place where everyone is welcome, whether for an exhibition visit, a specific event or meeting up with friends in the café.
Northampton Museum and Art Gallery
We have provided a cultural space for the people of Northampton and beyond for more than 150 years.
Abington Park Museum
This much loved venue, located in a beautiful park, was gifted to the people of Northampton in 1897.
The story of the gaol
The story of the museum building begins with crime and punishment and 300 prisoners.
The story of a Tudor manor house
Abington Manor is more than 500 years old and has been a farm, a family home, asylum and now a museum.
Heritage Organisation of the Year 2021
The museum recently won the Northamptonshire Heritage Forum’s ‘Heritage Organisation of the Year 2021’ award, for demonstrating innovation, creativity and problem solving. The entry demonstrated new digital engagement, new materials for future social historians and judges commended the team’s extremely hard work behind the scenes, while also maintaining the morale of volunteers throughout.
