|
Several of Fiddes’ paintings show his commentary on the events of the world and how people are affected by them. Often, he shows how figures react to the action unfolding around them as is evident in this painting of the perilous crossing made by migrants from Libya to Lampedusa. |
|
It is evident from news reports of this time, that many of these journeys resulted in death and shipwrecks. Here both the violent sea and heartless traffickers are threats to the migrants. Fiddes paints works like this to prompt discussion, increase awareness and hopefully stop these horrors being repeated. |
