In 1959 students from Cambridge University organised an expedition, to re-trace the route used to invade Italy by the military commander Hannibal in 218 BCE. He took 38 elephants; the students took Jumbo from an Italian zoo who managed to walk most of the route in 1959. The boots and a canvas cover were made by Lotus, Northampton. |
