Urbansketchers Northampton

Urbansketchers Northampton has been sketching together outdoors since April 2015 and became a recognised chapter of the international Urbansketchers organisation in October 2017. The group meets regularly to draw on location in Northampton and across Northamptonshire, documenting the places, buildings, and everyday scenes of the area through direct observation.

Abington Park Museum

Saturday 31 January to Sunday 12 April

Participation is open to everyone. No prior experience is required, only something to draw with and something to draw on. At the end of each session, participants lay out their sketches to view and discuss together. This shared moment, known as the “throwdown,” is photographed as a record of the event and to share online.

Urbansketchers Northampton is part of a global network of more than 500 chapters worldwide, all of which follow the Urbansketchers Manifesto:

  1. We draw on location, indoors or out, capturing what we see from direct observation.
  2. Our drawings tell the story of our surroundings, the places we live, and where we travel.
  3. Our drawings are a record of time and place.
  4. We are truthful to the scenes we witness.
  5. We use any kind of media and cherish our individual styles.
  6. We support each other and draw together.
  7. We share our drawings online.
  8. We show the world, one drawing at a time.
