Northampton based Barclaycard introduced the first UK credit card in 1967, revolutionising the way that consumers paid for goods. Within 12 months, over a million customers in the UK had signed up for a Barclaycard credit card.

Initially there were just thirty employees based at Aquila House, a converted shoe factory in St Giles Terrace. As the company rapidly expanded, they moved to Barclaycard House in 1970 .Today, the company employs more than 3,000 people in Northampton at Pavilion Drive, Brackmills, making it one of the town’s biggest employers.
