This panel depicts hare coursing. Hare coursing is the hunting of hares with greyhounds or dogs of a similar breed. It was very popular at the time of the carving with the first complete set of English hare coursing rules drawn up in the 16th century. Ever since that time there has been opposition to hare coursing on the grounds of animal cruelty. Hare coursing was banned in the UK by the Hunting Act 2004.
