Heritage Fund

The National Lottery Heritage Fund has funded Northampton Museums and Art Gallery for a number of years. The latest project was Conflict and Communities: Northampton commemorates the First World War.

The project commemorated the First World War with a wide range of activity across Northampton with participants, volunteers and visitors sharing experiences.

The project included a major exhibition, two unique newly commissioned community theatre performances, family days, symposia, lectures and other events and learning programmes. Thank you to all our 142 volunteers who took part in the project. Northampton Museums & Art Gallery holds extensive social and military history collections associated with the First World War. The objects illustrate life on the home front and the front line and provide an insight into the lives of soldiers from the Northamptonshire Regiment and Northamptonshire Yeomanry.

A digital archive was created as part of the project. Here, you can browse through a range of objects, photographs, documents and oral histories relating to the First World War and add comments or share experiences with other visitors.
