This interactive session introduces children to the museum's handling collection of vintage and replica toys through interactive activities and exploration of the museum. |

The facilitated Toys session utilises the extensive museum handling collection of old and new toys to provide pupils with the opportunity to interrogate artefacts to draw inferences about the past, understand how toys are made, changes in materials and technology over time and experience how a range of traditional toys are played with. The overall session is 1.5 hours long – with two c.45-minute activities (toy handling activity and interactive toy hunt in the museum) including changeover time. Schools can extend their visit beyond the 1.5 hours to have lunch at the museum or enjoy free-flow exploration of the rest of the museum galleries (please note that a charge may be made to cover staff time). An additional Toy Making activity can be booked as an extension activity or as an alternative to the toy handling activity. |
