Museum Collections Move Research Volunteer

Main purpose of role:

The Museum collections will be moving to a new store. The objects to be moved include a range of objects from 500AD to the present day. This includes shoes, costume and social history objects.
This is an opportunity to join a team of volunteers to help with condition checking, packing and boxing these important objects. No experience is necessary and full training will be given. The project will improve collections care to help with the move.

Main duties:

  • Bringing information from different catalogue systems together onto one database
  • Assessing the significance of an object and its importance in relation to the rest of the collection.
  • Researching objects

Location:

The Guildhall, Northampton

Approximate time commitment and duration:

Until April 2026

½ a day regularly on the following days/times:
Tuesday Wednesday, Thursday morning or Friday

Either 10am - 1pm or 1.30 - 4pm

Minimum committment required:

½ day regularly for 3 months or a full week (workig the days noted above) for a 3 week period

Useful skills required:

  • Digital/Computer skills
  • Attention to detail and procedures
  • Ability to work on own initiative or as a team
  • Interest in social history/costume/ shoe collection
