Museum Collections Documentation Volunteer
Main purpose of role:
Northampton Museum and Art Gallery is looking for volunteers to join a team to help improve the storage and care of museum objects and their use in exhibitions, events and research. The collections include a range of objects from 6000BP to the present day. This includes archaeology, coins and numismatics, shoes, clothing and textile and social history, decorative art and fine art objects.
This is an opportunity to join a team of volunteers to help with improving the documenting and recording of these important objects on a museum database. No experience is necessary, and full training will be given.
Main duties:
- Cataloguing objects on a database
- Add images to the database
- Label objects and boxes
Location:
The Guildhall, Northampton
Northampton Museum & Art Gallery
Approximate time commitment and duration:
Tuesday Wednesday, Thursday or Friday between 10.00am to 1pm and 1pm to 4pm (note that volunteers ae welcome to undertake a full day if preferred)
We would ask you to commit a ½ day regularly over a minimum of 3 months or undertake a regular week (days noted above) for a minimum of a 3-week period.

- Digital/Computer skills
- Attention to detail and procedures
- Ability to work on own initiative or as a team
- Interest in social history or art
