Opening times

Northampton Museum and Art Gallery will be open for visits on the following days:

Tuesday - Saturday: 10am-5pm

Sunday: 12-5pm

Also open: Spring and Summer bank holidays 10am-5pm

Closed: Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day

Facilities

We want to make your visit as comfortable as possible. Our facilities include:

  • A café offering refreshments open 11am – 4pm
  • Museum shop selling a wide selection of gifts including books, cards, t-shirts, collection and exhibition themed items, postcards and work by local artists and makers.
  • The Selling Gallery showcases diverse artwork for sale, with a focus on local artists and creators.
  • Secure lockers for small to medium bags – £1 per use
  • Toilets and accessible toilets
  • Baby changing facilities
  • A buggy park where pushchairs can be safely stored while you explore the galleries

Getting here and access

Public Transport
Buses arrive at North Gate Bus Station, Bradshaw Street, NN1 3B2.
Northampton Railway Station is on Black Lion Hill, NN1 1SP.

Parking
There's no parking at the museum.
Limited pay and display spaces are on:
Guildhall Road (2 hours maximum, no return within 1 hour).
The nearest car parks are at Albion Place, St John's and Mayorhold.

Accessible Parking
Blue badge holders can park free in the pay and display bays on Guildhall Road.

Museum Entrance
The entrance on Guildhall Road has level access and automatic doors.

Lifts and Access
Lifts go to all floors. All areas are accessible for wheelchairs and buggies. Ask reception for a museum plan.

Accessible Toilets
Two accessible toilets are on the upper ground floor—one near the cafe and one near the shop. Ask staff for directions. The nearest Changing Places toilet is at North Gate Bus Station.

Seating
Seating is available in some galleries, the cafe and The Link.

Hearing Enhancement
Hearing loops are at reception, the cafe counter, the shop till and in The Studio.

Assistance Animals
Assistance animals are welcome when working and wearing their harness or tabard. Bring their ID book. Water bowls are available at reception. The nearest toileting area is at Becket's Park, Derngate, NN1 1UH.
