Description |
Students use both original and replica objects to re-enact the 'Opening of the Mouth Ceremony' that will bring the dead Pharaoh everlasting life. A replica mummy and Anubis mask are amongst the objects used for this funeral rite. |
Opening of the mouth ceremonyIn this part of the session students will learn about the funeral rites practiced by the Ancient Egyptians. Using original and replica objects and props the students will act out the opening of the mouth ceremony in a mini role play activity. Hieroglyphics activityStudents learn about hieroglyphics and, using reed pens and ink, write in pictures and symbols on papyrus. This workshop is teacher-led and delivered at the same time as the opening of the mouth activity. Handling ArtefactsStudents will examine and handle a range of Ancient Egyptian artefacts from our collection enabling them to learn about how study of objects adds to our understanding of Egyptian life and beliefs. |
