Miss Cotton in yellow, Sir Godfrey Kneller

This portrait was created in the style of Sir Godfrey Kneller the leading portrait painter in England during the late 17th and early 18th centuries.

Kneller was famed for his portrayal of feminine beauty at court. As the title suggests, the woman portrayed is part of the Cotton family who once resided in Madingley Hall, Cambridgeshire, from 1647 until the 1860s. During this time the Hall was home to six generations of the Cotton family. The portrait is now on display in another country house, Abington Park Museum, which was once home to the Thursby family.
