The 12 bars on the ribbon record the battles at which Israel Daniel was present while serving with the 48th Regiment of Foot during the Napoleonic Wars, including Salamanca, Vittoria and the Pyrenees. This medal was not awarded until thirty two years after the end of the war and only to those who applied for it in person. Despite this over twenty five thousand people applied for this campaign medal to recognise their service. |
