Courteenhall Park in Early Spring by Chris Fiddes

This is the earliest work on display by Fiddes, painted when the artist was 17 as a gift for his mother. This painting depicts the Courteenhall Estate in south Northamptonshire and shows a distinctive style to the other works on display.

Originally, when Fiddes was an art student, he intended to pursue a career as a landscape painter. However, what he witnessed during his National Service in Hong Kong in 1956 and the impact of Francisco Goya’s paintings, completely changed his artistic style. Fiddes decided to paint art that recorded the real situations, and his comments on humanity and society.
