The Music Party, (after) William Hogarth

This group portrait of a musical family group was painted by an unknown artist in the style of William Hogarth, an artist known for his depictions of English society in the 1700s.

At this time music was becoming increasingly accessible for the middle classes. Music was a way to show refinement and status, which is what the family is doing by having their portrait painted in this way.
