World War One boot

This boot is an amazing survivor from World War One.

This leather boot was found in Mametz Wood on the Somme battlefield site in 1986. It was made by Whybrows & Co, Australia. The maker’s name suggests a bespoke boot, which in turn suggests it may have belonged to an officer – possibly an Australian officer.

This World War One boot is on display in the Functionality case in the shoe gallery.
