Archaeological material from the Neolithic – New Stone Age period (4000-2500 BCE) such as hand axes from various parts of Britain brought to Northampton demonstrates just how long people have been visiting and trading in the area. The earliest evidence of human settlement was Briar Hill around 3500 BCE. This site was in use for around 1500 years as suggested by archaeological evidence of reused ditches. From 3000 BCE, there was also a site of particular importance at Duston. |
