Ablaze with Colour, Awash with Light: Gardens in Art

One of the Royal Academy’s headline exhibitions in 2016 was Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse, a celebration of art works made by artists who were also known to have been dedicated gardeners. The exhibition examined how each of the featured artists was inspired by, and responded to, the private world of calm, colour and beauty they created. This tradition in art can be traced back to the seclusion and sanctity of the medieval hortus conclusus (enclosed garden). Join ProArtium on a journey of light, colour, bloom and blossom, as we invite works in the collection of Northampton Museum and Art Gallery to lead us up various artistic garden paths.
