A History of Northamptonshire in 100 Objects

The project will culminate in a major exhibition "A History of Northamptonshire in 100 Objects" in September 2025. With a diverse range of objects selected by guest curators and the museum, the exhibition will take visitors on a journey through Northamptonshire's rich and diverse past. 

Blue Plaque Scheme

As part of the HIstories of Northamptonshire project, the Blue Plaque Scheme is intended to commemorate people and places that have made a significant contribution to the history and culture of West Northamptonshire.

Distributed Exhibition

Community groups along with cultural and heritage venues across Northamptonshire are invited to support the A History of Northamptonshire in 100 Objects exhibition by exploring their local stories - hosting exhibitions or events that explore objects, buildings, landscapes or people or events and developing the website and app.

Get Involved

The project offers individuals, organisations and community groups across the county to explore and share our rich history - become a guest curator and select an object for the History of Northamptonshire in 100 Objects exhibition, host a local exhibition or event, submit objectsfor inclusion on the project website or volunteer to assist with research to tell the different stories of Northamptonshire's rich heritage and culture. 

Guest Curators

In October 2024 we asked individuals, groups and community organisations from across the county to join us as Guest Curators for our exhibition A History of Northamptonshire in 100 Objects as part of our Arts Council England funded project to explore and share histories from Northamptonshire's past. 

Histories Book Series

HON will explore and document the rich and diverse history of Northamptonshire; supporting the commissioning and publication of high-quality books that celebrate different aspects of the county's history along side a book to accompany the History of Northamptonshire in 100 Objects exhibtion. 

HoN Website and App

An interactive website and engaging app will support the History of Northamptonshire in 100 Objects exhibition and encourage visitors to explore objects and places at the museum and other venues in the county; and support their exploration of history and heritage in their local area.

Library Exhibitions

NMAG is working with Brackley, Weston Favell, Daventry and Towcester libraries to engage with audiences across the West Northamptonshire area. New exhibition areas within each library are hosting exhibitions developed with local community groups and will also be an important part of the History in 100 Objects wider exhibition programme.

Podcast Series

The rich heritage and history of Northamptonshire will be explored through a series of 100 podcasts; each focussing on a single object from the A History of Northamptonshire in 100 Objects exhibition.
