A talk by Dr Xavier Salomon Deputy Director and Chief Curator of The Frick Collection, New York
Rosalba Carriera was an Venetian artist well-known for her pastel portraits. She is currently known as one of the most successful Venetian female artists working up until her death in 1757. Over the past two years, Dr Salomon has been researching Rosalba’s life which will form the basis of a new catalogue raisonné of her work and biography. He has examined more than one hundred unframed pastels by Carriera from collections across the world - studying her technique. This has led to the new discovery of hidden inscriptions and small prints by Carriera on the backboards and frames inside many of her pastels.
Booking essential.
