If you’re thinking of trying a new skill or really improving your landscape painting this year, why not book your place on Cordell Garfield’s one day workshop?
His Landscape Painting in Oils workshop is the perfect painting introduction for kickstarting your artistic journey, with a workshop that is ideal for both beginners and improvers.
Landscape Painting in Oils takes place on Saturday 11th April 2026 from 10am – 4pm at Northampton Museum & Art Gallery and tickets are £65 per person and include all materials. (You will be contacted in advance to let you know of any other additional materials you may need to bring)
Set in a friendly and supportive environment, Cordell’s workshop follows a step-by-step process giving you the confidence and skills to produce your own landscape oil painting. Working from a reference photo you’ll learn core skills including:
• Painting confidently with oil paints
• Mapping and measuring a landscape using perspective
• Understanding tone, hue, and chroma
• Organising a colour palette and colour mixing for strong results
Through Cordell’s live demonstrations, expert guidance and individual tuition, you’ll finish the day with your own completed landscape painting. Cordell will also supply helpful take-home notes to help cement your learning. Materials are supplied, and a materials list will be provided for those participants wanting to bring their own equipment and paints.

Cordell Garfield is a highly acclaimed Northampton artist, who regularly conducts painting demonstrations and workshops for art clubs and societies throughout the Midlands and East Anglia. He is currently President of the Northampton Town and County Art Society, has exhibited at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and has his work held in collections outside the UK.
