A Mysterious Medieval Coin Hoard and Other Treasure Finds from the County

Circular silver coin with cross motif sitting on two fingers.

A talk and discussion about a coin hoard found in 2019 and now on display in Northampton Museum & Art Gallery. Detectorist Adrian Claridge found an unusual hoard of 22 silver groats and pennies with dates between 1301 and 1430, in a field in South Northants. This event will explore what we have learnt so far from the find and what was happening in Northamptonshire and the country at that time. Speakers include Eleanore Cox, Finds Liaison Officer for Northamptonshire, and detectorist Adrian Claridge. The discussions will also look at other recent notable treasure finds from the county including a chance to view a defaced Roman coin recently acquired through the Portable Antiquities Scheme.
