A Fresh Start for the Northampton Museum Café, Led by The Lewis Foundation
Published: Thursday, 07 November 2024
Starting Tuesday November 12, 2024, The Lewis Foundation will be taking the reins at the Northampton Museum and Art Gallery café.
This well-loved local charity, known for its dedication to delivering gift bags to adult cancer patients, is excited to bring its popular café experience to the museum. Already running a successful coffee shop at the Elgar Centre in Upton and two retail stores in Northampton and Luton, The Lewis Foundation is all set to create a welcoming, community-focused space at the museum.
The new café will serve up a variety of food and drinks in a relaxed, inviting setting. From cappuccinos and lattes to sandwiches, toasties, and freshly baked cakes, there’s something to suit every taste. The menu will also showcase ingredients from local suppliers, including Friars Farm and GF Shoetown Baker.
Lorraine Lewis, CEO and co-founder of The Lewis Foundation, shares the excitement: "We can’t wait to make the museum café a go-to spot for visitors and locals. We’ve assembled a great team to create a friendly, inclusive space where people can enjoy quality food and drinks without breaking the bank. It’s an opportunity to extend our commitment to the community, which we’re already doing at our Elgar Centre café.”
West Northamptonshire Council is equally enthusiastic about the change. Cllr Daniel Lister highlights how the new café aligns perfectly with the museum's mission: “The Lewis Foundation brings a community-focused energy to the museum. We’re excited to see them transform the café into a welcoming, must-visit spot.”
The café will be open from 10am to 4pm, Tuesday to Saturday and on Bank Holidays, with Sunday hours from 12pm to 4pm.
For those who don’t know, The Lewis Foundation is a powerhouse in the local community, working with 17 hospitals across the Midlands to provide support for adult cancer patients. Each month, the team hand-delivers about 2,000 gift packs filled with essentials like toiletries, radios, and stationery to those in need.
