Enjoy our top pick of objects on display in the Military Galleries.The Military Galleries at Abington Park Museum tell the story of the Northamptonshire Regiment and the Northamptonshire Yeomanry. Militia drum

Militia drum presented to the Northamptonshire Militia by Lord Viscount Althorpe on 1 September 1779.

A sword that was used primarily by British light dragoons and hussars and light cavalry during the Napoleonic Wars.

The death of General Wolfe

Framed engraving of the death of General Wolfe at the Battle of Quebec in 1759. The inscription below print reads 'Painted by B. West, Historical Painter to His Majesty.'

Military General Services medal

This medal was awarded to Israel Daniel of the 48th Regiment of Foot for service in the Napoleonic Wars.

Racing cup

A racing trophy of the Northamptonshire Yeomanry Cavalry won on the 30 August 1837.

Portrait of Mary Anne Wellington who had been a daughter, a wife and then a widow of men in uniform.

Uniform buttons

These buttons were found on the coast of New Zealand at Russell Bay on 3 October 1912. They are from the uniform of the 58th Regiment of Foot.

Breast plate

This breast plate or shoulder belt plate would have been part of the uniform of an Officer of the 48th Regiment of Foot during their service in the Crimea, 1855.

Regimental mess table setting

Mess table set with the various pieces of regimental silverware.

Leather wallet

Brown leather wallet with fabric and buff leather lining presented as a gift by the Northampton Allied War Fund during Christmas 1917. The gold inscription reads: 'The Seasons Greetings, 1917 from the Northampton Allied War Fund'.

Tank pressure cooker stove

The stove and tin were issued to crews of armoured vehicles during the Second World War.

Tiger tank mudguard

This rear mudguard is from one of the 3 Tiger tanks knocked out by Joe Ekins, a Sherman Firefly tank gunner of the 1st Northamptonshire Yeomanry, at St Aignan on the 8 August 1944.

British Expeditionary Force 1939

Case with a mixture of authentic and replica objects representing the 2nd Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment which was also part of the Regular Army.

Pith helmet

Pith helmet covered in light khaki twilled cotton with black regimental flashes on both sides. Designed for wear in warm climates.
